Once upon a time… there
was a family that was dispossessed of its property
on the island of Ruegen by communist authorities
then in charge in the former East Germany.
Friends
in the Black Forrest came to the rescue and
the West German government helped to acquire
a house
in Schoenwald that is situated on the banks
of the Gutach river, |

at the very place where it forms
a little island. Hosting friends came easy, and
thus was born DIE INSELKLAUSE. It opened on July
15, 1955 and quickly became a home away from
home to guests from around the world that just
kept coming back. |
